Eyes On the Prize | # Fashion Trends We Have Our Eyes on in 2022
Hello 2022 and hello, new fashion trends. Our team of designers is keeping their eyes on the runway to give you the insider scoop on 2022’s fashion trends, so that you don’t have to.
Here to Cheer
The main trends that we’re seeing walk the runway focus on two things: celebration and comfort. Here come the days to strut your stuff in bright colors, party attire, and shiny fabrics but hang on to your cozies because comfortability is here to stay.
Bold hues are going to emerge in every fashion category, especially evening and everyday wear. Don’t be afraid to give vibrant colors a try. We love a good color block duo.
After being wrapped up indoors we understand your craving to get out and show off a few cute outfits. We also get that you don’t want to give up the sweatpants. News flash—they’re here to stay. Cue leisurewear - oversized shirts, wide legged pants, and big jackets. If you feel something is too oversized, bring your waist in with a chain belt, another trend that’s going to be popular this year.
Jackets
Jackets are going one of two ways: shrinking in size or bulking up.
Consider a tailored silhouette, pairing a micro blazer with slim-fitting pants. Or dress in roomy regalia with boxy oversized jackets. Pair a form-fitting top with a large jacket and a pair of classic denim jeans.
Shiny Fabrics
Speaking of dressing up, we’re seeing lots of bright and shiny objects. No, really! Fluorescent fabrics, sequins, and metallics that catch light will be really popular. Spend enough time at home and an outfit craves some attention! Consider glitzing up a basic outfit by adding sparkling jewelry pieces or a metallic scarf.
We’re also seeing tons of bright-colored handbags. 2022 Rules are that your handbag doesn’t need to “match” your outfit. Embrace funky patterns and colors. Carry your phone, wallet, and event tickets in a bag with funky patterns and colors.
Comfort Reigns as Queen
Oversized Shirts
Focusing on lightness and carefree energies, oversized flowing tops are going to be popular.
Low Rise Jeans
We’re going to miss the tummy-control that high waisted jeans give, but coming are the days of loose and wide-leg denim. Cue longer tops that cover the midriff area. We understand there’s a whole demographic of women who still want the bottom half of their shirts.
"Work" Shoes
Chunky loafers are going to be in. Increase your stature with an added platform. Perhaps your handwritten sign will better catch the eye of your favorite teams on court if you're a little taller!
Skin Is In
We’re hearing more and more conversations about body positivity, embracing your curves and loving your build. Designers are embracing cold shoulders, cutouts, and form fitting silhouettes.
Do you like the option to either add or to shed layers throughout the day? You may want to keep an eye out for Alumna House’s Fall Collection pre order announcement, because we’re designing a moto jacket to layer over a top, dress, or romper.
Sustainability
The final thing that’s becoming a major focus for designers and consumers is sustainability. People are opting for recycled fabrics in pieces that were created through fair trade protocols. We’re also seeing the 1990’s loop back around. Perhaps your daughter’s high school memory box has some sweaters that could use a good dusting.
Pantone's 2022 Color of the Year - Very Peri
We're very excited to announce that Pantone's 2022 "Color of the Year" is "Very Peri" a periwinkle color that, encourages "personal inventiveness and creativity." We'd like to point out how similar it is to Alumna House's brand colors. Does this mean we're truly the trend setters?
