The Woman Who Shattered a NCAA Record

The daughter of Romanian immigrants and raised in California, Sabrina Ionescu (pronounced yo-ness-coo) is one of the most important names in women’s basketball today. lonescu, a standout highschool player, eventually made her way to Eugune Oregon to play for the Oregon Ducks starting in the 2015-2016 season.
In Eugene, Sabrina would create one of the most prolific basketball careers in NCAA history, rocketing the Ducks to national prominence. Playing point guard, she would amass 26 Triple Doubles (double-digit points, assists, and rebounds in a game) over the course of her four year career, shattering the NCAA record.
In March of 2020, the #2 ranked Ducks were poised to make a championship run when the 2020 NCAA Tournament was cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
In April, the New York Liberty selected Ionescu 1st overall in the 2020 WNBA draft. She played in her first professional basketball game on July 25th, 2020.
